PORTLAND MUSIC LESSONS IN ALAMEDA/SABIN

Piano, Guitar, Songwriting, Composition, and Music Production

I offer fun, private piano and guitar lessons for students ages 6 and up with a free trial lesson! I also specialize in teaching songwriting and music production/technology. I teach classical, jazz and pop and lessons can include ear training, and music theory.

I am a dedicated and experienced music teacher with lots of energy and enthusiasm. I am a Grammy voting member, and I have a MA in music education from SPU and a BA from the UW, Seattle. I have been teaching piano and running my own studio now for 15 years. I've also taught music at Portland Public Schools and private schools in SF and Seattle. I love what I do, and I am currently accepting students of all ages and ability levels.

I keep my music studio small to provide a high-quality experience for each student. I foster a positive, warm, and encouraging teaching environment where lessons are customized to meet each student's personal needs. Students have the opportunity to perform at our annual recital!

I teach weekly 45-minute lessons from 2-8 pm Monday - Thursday. Please contact me for rates and availability.

"My daughter looks forward to her piano lessons!"

We could not have found a better piano teacher for our daughter! My piano teacher growing up was an old lady. What we got was a young, enthusiastic, kind person that truly cares about the quality of her work and who can relate very well to kids the age of mine (8 and 10). But what we ended up with was much more. Joy is so much more to my daughter than just her piano teacher- she is a wonderful role model for her as well. Her sheer joy for what she does comes out so clearly and so abundantly that it's contagious. And her independence and clear work ethic leaves such a fantastic impression on my kids. She's positive, encouraging, and kind.

Joy has given my daughter knowledge about how to play the piano that is for certain, but more importantly has instilled in her a certain confidence that I think could only have come through a relationship like this one.
